Day time footage
Display tests
I decided to go for the last idea as it seemed to have less disadvantages. I found that the "window" idea from earlier didn't look as good as I thought it would so I haven't taken that idea any further.
This is the screen shot of the daytime video, I really like the way this one has turned out. When the videos line up, and you get that split second of things disappearing it looks awesome!
This is the night time one, I'm not so keen on this one, the difference blending layer didn't work as well as it did on the day time one. I decided to experiment with the different layering options, and I couldn't get the effect I was looking for, the nearest to it was the overlay blend option, although this still did not give the desired effect.
This is a shot of the overlay blend layer, as you can see, it doesn't have the same effect as the difference command.

Display Ideas
The good points about this are:
-all the video, both day and night, can be seen on the same layout.
-the sound for it would work well as there will only be one composite showing at one time.
The problems with this are:
-the main composite, being the main piece of work would end up being relatively small.
-upon experiments I have found that the day and night time don't mix well together using a difference blending mode, so I would not be able to mix them, leaving this idea more redundant than the others.
the good points are:
-all the videos can be seen at the same time, both day and night.
-each set is separated and therefore can be shown more effectively.
-the composites would have more space and therefore could be bigger than in idea one.
the disadvantages are:
-the sound, it would make it confusing as two sets of sound would be playing, one for each composite.
Advantages:
-bigger composite
-sound can be easily distinguished for each set, as they would be separated.
Disadvantages:
-the project would be split into two different files.

Difference Layer Tests
Commands in Premiere that I always lose!
More for my reference, for where to find the cropping command:
Effects> Video Effects> Transform> Crop
Track Mattes:
Effects> Video Effects> Keying> Track Matte Key
Very useful commands!

Track Mattes:

More Learning...
"Clipping Masks" are called "Track Mattes" in Premiere and the world of video! That would be why I couldn't find any tutorials!
I've found one now :)
I'm using this one now.

Learning...
After all of the After Effects work, I've just found out how to implement layer blending options in Premiere! At least I know now, and I've had an introduction to AE.

Big Changes
So there are some BIG changes being made to Mr Project currently.
The flash interface has been scrapped in favour of some after effects fiddling with the video.
Took me a while to get to grips with using after effects, but it's not too bad once you get used to it, some of it's quite similar to photoshop, and some similar to premiere so it could be a lot worse! Done a few test exports before I realised how to export properly, managed to get some rubbish things and some not bad things. So I'm just working on the proper footage now, instead of a 30 sec text amount.
I'm using the difference blend layer, as this shows the amount of difference between the layers, making a really interesting affect. I've done this layer blend in after effects and am now putting it back into premiere to make a composite with that and the original video, as I know how to use premiere more and am not sure sure what after effects can do.
Below is a screen shot of what it currently looks like, although I have more work to do. I am planning on making a few different layouts.

New video, yay!
Well, I finally managed to get premier working... I think it was something to do with the size of what I was trying to capture and the amount of scratch disk space it didn't have any more... To stop this problem I've decided to only capture what I need, and I'm only doing a walk of the Uni.
So here's a look at the new layout:

Buttons Up Close and Personal
This is a close up of what my buttons look like, they all follow pretty much the same design. Top is up position, middle is over position, and bottom is down position.
I thought I would change it to symbols as this is commonly recognised, although to make it obvious that the controls were for the video I used the shape of them to look like they are connected with the video.

Interface Development
This is a screen shot of a front page to introduce my project:
This is how the development of the main body interface is coming along. The play button had the curser over it although this does not show up on the screen shot. I also went over the motion tween of the minimap again to make it more acurate.
I hope to make an introduction page explaining about the ideas behind the project, to explain to the users what the project is for.
I hope for it to be an experiential project where the user has a different experience to what they might normally have by walking through the university campus. The video will be overlayed onto each other, and different sound clips played from different journeys. This could either end up disorientating the user, or the sounds could 'match up' making an altogether different experience.

More Problems
Well, it seems I've forgotten my cable so I can't get any more video from my tapes, I've got half of the cables I need, but not all of them! So I'll get on with the video capturing when I get back to Plymouth on Tuesday.
On the plus side I've managed to finsh the motion tween on the mini map.
I am running into some problems with how to make the work interactional, I'm not sure I can do it in the way I want to so I will test the interface design using footage exported from premier first and then experiment with the interactional elements.

SOFTWARE!!! ARRGGHHH
Will it never work for me?
I've had so many issues with things crashing... joyas fun!
I've got so annoyed with premier crashing I thought I would get my flash holder set up for it all, only for it to crash, but it's only done it once, so fingers crossed it's ok!
I've been through all of the footage that I have managed to get onto the computer, and there's only really one route that's good enough to be used. There are another 7 or so more routes on tape waiting to go on, so I've got to sort out this software issue before I explode!!!
Although, the flash work has been going ok, I've got a basic set up sorted and the video and audio into flash seperately (finally). Got some buttons on there, once my brain turned itself on and remembered the code... it's been a while...

I then added a background and a minimap, courtesy of google maps, so that you can see where you are. Took me longer than I thought it would as CS4 have changed how you do motion tweens, although there's a rather handy tutorial on youtube. At first I wondered why it had all gone green and nothing was moving! Confused me way too much!
I'm now going to move all the video I've finished with onto my backup harddrive and see if the extra space makes any difference to premier, even though it should have enough!
Video fun time!
